The Future of Education?
We’ve been watching Sal Khan and the fascinating work he’s doing at his online Khan Academy for a while now, but it seems he’s starting to get more and more media attention around the project, which is exactly what it needs to truly “tip.” The website offers bite-sized (12 minutes or less) courses ranging from basic math to advanced chemistry and an impressive and growing variety of lessons bundled under “humanities/other”. In fact, I probably should have utilized the site a lot more during my Mod I Finance course.
This ties into a larger debate on the democratization of higher education, with some business schools starting to offer online content for free. It’s an interesting area to watch going forward, but for now, here’s a two minute clip of Sal Khan and Bill Gates discussing Khan Academy, its history and its potential social ramifications:
